why pH is a thing (warning - a bit sciency)
zoomies after a bath
We've all seen the zoomies happen after a bath, which we normally associate with a happy and contented dog. Unfortunately, a lot of dogs are doing the
"zoomies - commando roll - rub on the carpet or couch manoeuvre" because of stinging and irritation from the shampoo you have just used.

"It's the same as washing your own hair in floor cleaner or truck wash."
Using shampoo that is not pH balanced strips away the dirt and grime, but then penetrates into the skin. This causes instant irritation and stops your dogs hair from producing the essential oils needed.
pH Level (potential Hydrogen)
Part of the skin's environment is the pH level. Put simply, the pH level of skin protects the skin from breaking down and getting sick from external bugs and nasties. It also stops the skin from drying out.

If pH is too low, the skin is ACIDIC. The skin becomes red, inflamed and painful. The hair follicles can stop producing natural oils and become clogged.

If the pH is too high, the skin is ALKALINE. The skin becomes sensitivity and dry causing flaking and scratching.

Normal dog shampoo
Most dog shampoo is made from the same methods and ingredients as human soap. This produces a 5.5 pH stable product.

A dog's pH is 6.8. Normal soap can be acidic on their skin causing irritation, inflammation and let viruses into their bodies.
