My philosophy on dog training is based on one simple premise... Don't correct-Redirect!

What that means is dogs have been bred specifically over thousands of years to work with humans and more intensely bred over the past few hundred years for desired traits to do specific tasks. So I believe that we need to use this innate behaviour to help us rather than hinder us.

Think of the hound that is constantly running and splashing in the local pond and trying to fetch ducks....well he was probably bred to do just that so why not employ his breed instincts and bring the family together by getting involved in dock dogs? Or the dog that constantly goes bananas when someone goes near your yard, he is saying' hey I'm a great guard dog'....and I believe its up to you to redirect that behaviour to be useful to you.

Now about the many little dogs out there that seem fixated on shoes, dirty socks and undies... well its very common after all many small dogs especially terriers have been bred to sniff out rodents grab them and bring them back to their master...I teach people that they can give their dog a job to collect their teenage children's dirty socks and jocks and put them in the laundry basket.

You see how easily you can find a job for your dog when you think about what he has been bred for?

Dogs are desperate to assist humans and work with humans simpley because when we domesticated them so many thousands of years ago we selectively bred them to do just that. So they are hardwired to help us....is your dog unemployed?
